Pre-Project Blog #1
Most of you guys probably know who I am, but for those of you that do not, my name is Myles Temesi and I am a senior at Hawken Upper School. During the next few weeks, I will create a Hawken/Senior project around a subject that interests me deeply: performing classical music. In particular, I plan to explore the vast and unique differences between some of my favorite professional pianists, thoroughly examining how (and perhaps even why) they interpreted certain music the way they did. I might also look into how they physically play the pieces (tying into the more technical side of the playing), and what choices they made musically speaking. Some of the pieces will be something I studied in the past year, while others will be something that I enjoy listening to on a daily basis. All information and research will be recorded in a video format or an essay, but I have not fully decided yet. I look forward to creating this project!
Good, Myles. Do you have any hypotheses as to why they interpreted different music the way they did. Was it their background? The culture of the time? Something else? This is a neat angle. I am looking forward to seeing what you produce and what you learn through this intensive process.
